Use of Multiparametric MRI in Prostate Cancer Treatments: A Prospective Study

The prospective study conducted by LMU Klinikum München investigates the effectiveness of vascular-targeted photodynamic therapy (VTP) and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in the treatment of localized prostate cancer.

Using multiparametric MRI (mpMRI), ten patients were monitored over the course of one year to track anatomical changes and potential tumor recurrence.

The results show that mpMRI reliably captures changes in prostate and tumor volumes, with an initial increase in prostate volume, followed by a significant reduction after one year. A recurrence was detected in one patient.

mpMRI proves to be a valuable tool for monitoring tumor recurrence, but further validation in larger studies is required.
