Lung cancer screening: cooperation for efficient processes and digital networking

Heidelberg, September 15, 2026 – In close collaboration with two second-reader centers in Heidelberg and 25 outpatient radiology screening providers, Curagita—as network and project manager—and Mint Medical—as the software and data backbone—are establishing a robust, high-quality, and data-secure architecture for Germany’s new lung cancer screening program.

Curagita is responsible for establishing and organizing the network of participating radiology practices and provides CuraHub, its own on-premises AI platform. The foundation for structured reporting and data management is provided by Mint Medical’s mint Lesion software.

“The bureaucratic hurdles are high for all of us. Especially with a new, strictly regulated screening program, short coordination channels are a decisive advantage. The close cooperation of our regional partners helps us to efficiently implement the large organizational and legal requirements,”

explains Artem Krot, project manager and authorized signatory at Curagita.

At this time, the network initially comprises 25 screening sites. The participating radiology facilities are supported by defined processes in conducting the screenings—from structured documentation of findings to the organization of second opinions and the transfer of relevant information to facilities providing follow-up care.

Since 2010, Mint Medical has been developing software for structured reporting and medical data management. Its platform also enables integration with specialized AI applications in the reporting workflow. The competence cluster will use the AI solution ADVANCE Chest CT from contextflow - A 4DMedical Company for this purpose.

“Our software helps radiologists capture the three key features of a comprehensive lung cancer screening solution: detecting and measuring round lesions, quantifying emphysema, and identifying coronary artery calcifications,”

emphasizes Mark Rawanschad, Business Development Manager – DACH at contextflow.

“With lung cancer screening, the task does not end with the reporting of a CT examination. Only structured processes enable consistent documentation, the involvement of the second reading, and the longitudinal care of the participants. This is exactly what we provide radiological facilities with via mint Lesion as a continuous platform,”

explains Steffen Rupp, Senior Sales Director at Mint Medical.

Curagita contributes many years of experience in setting up organized screening programs. The company already supported numerous radiological networks with the organizational implementation during the introduction of mammography screening.

The care delivery structure developed in Heidelberg serves as a model for establishing additional regional networks. The goal is to support radiology facilities in implementing lung cancer screening through standardized processes, clearly defined responsibilities, and close collaboration, and to increase the participation rate as quickly as possible.
